Do you prefer watching anime that is English dubbed or subbed?

I personally prefer watching subbed anime just because the English voices tend to never match the character. One example of this would be Horimiya where the female heroine has a deep voice and it just doesn't match the character as well as the Japanese version does.

I will actually watch one or two episodes of both, then dive in. Some anime are genuinely good dubbed, like DBZ or FMA while others, like One Piece, are less so.

if you were watching anime back in the late 2000s/early 2010s, sometimes it really just came down to whichever was more readily available when you're watching shit in parts on youtube or kissanime (may she rest in peace). when i was younger, i almost always preferred the sub, but as i've gotten older, i don't really care as much. i think a lot of it has to do with the massive increase in quality of dubbing in the last 10 to 15 years. in fact, i am more inclined often to watch the dub just bc my attention span is dogshit and i like to do other things while i watch tv. but that's just me.

I prefer to watch dubbed anime the first couple of times I watch it. This way, I can focus on the beautiful artwork, the plot of the story, and any mechanics the story deals with. However, I always like to go back and watch the subbed version because usually, there are mistranslations (sometimes purposeful based on the discretion of the English staff bias on English viewers). However, someday, I'll know enough Japanese to watch the anime without any translation aids and will be able to follow along based on the pure native lingo.

If dubbed is available I'll go with that. If not I'm fine with subbed. Either way it shouldnt matter how you enjoy your anime!

I will echo this. I will happily watch either subbed or dubbed.

If an anime has a dubbed variant, I will watch that until there are no more episodes dubbed and then switch to subbed to continue without issue. If there is no dubbed available, I will just watch subbed, especially for new releases. (...And then rewatch when the dubbed releases! Best of both worlds!)

As long as the dub version is done well, I would definitely love to go with it first. This is because sometimes recently, I get to lose focus when reading subtitles.

I prefer to watch subbed over dubbed, but every once in a while there's an anime I like that I don't mind the English voice actors. I think for the most part, the original voice actors really do a great job putting more emotion into their roles more than the English voice actors. It was worse in the 90's and 00's, dubs were often censored when they aired in the United States.

True about the issue of having dubs being censored back then. It made a mockery of everything about the anime because you're not getting everything you're supposed to when watching the anime.
